The Positives of Social Media

Positives of social media

Let’s not ignore the positives of social media! It’s not all doom and gloom.

Examples From My Own Life

I contemplated this as I drove my 5-year-old to his first hip-hop dance class (he is in a class with 3 of his kindergarten friends and the adorable level reached…OMG). TikTok in particular has normalized, even celebrates (even monetizes!) men dancing. If my son loves hip hop dancing well into his teens, I believe there will be no negative stigma or social pressure for him to stop as there was back when I was in school. Social media deserves a lot of credit for that.

I also see positives with social media when I think about staying in touch with distant family or people I’ve met traveling. They are all amazing, but you opportunities to see them in this busy life are limited. With social media you can stay in touch and learn about their life in a way that you probably wouldn’t if you had to write a letter or pick up the phone. It makes me feel closer to them even though we don’t get to see each other often enough.

Access to education. It’s unlimited, free, and high-quality.

Ability to meet new people from around the world that share your interests.

Ability to easily work with contractors from around the world. Sites like UpWork and Fiverr give you access to amazingly talented people who can help you meet your own goals or create fun projects.

Ability to share your art or ideas.
