Kermode uses Inquiry-Based Learning to support kids in evaluating online content and becoming better digital citizens.
Humans aren’t computers, so why would we learn like one? Information in and information out. Here’s your textbook with all the answers, please memorize these and then tell me what it said on the test in a few weeks. Not only is this method of learning incredibly boring, it doesn’t in any way look like learning in the real world.
Learning in your personal and professional life starts with a question or problem you need to solve. It’s exploratory. It’s collaborative. It requires critical thinking skills. It’s fun and interesting.
Inquiry-based learning helps kids explore a topic and find the information for themselves. This type of immersive learning helps them internalize all that they’ve learned to a far greater degree than memorization, and helps them build the skills they need to be successful life long learners. They are learning how to learn.
Having the confidence to learn and grow helps kids throughout both their professional and personal lives.
Kermode uses inquiry-based learning in all of the elements it analyzes while evaluating content online. The student explores the questions with a parent, teacher, group, or by themselves, and the more they use these questions the more it becomes a habit and they apply these questions to all the media they are bombarded with online.
