How pervasive is gambling in our society?

The days of gambling being confined to casinos and shady bookies have long past. As a result, it can be difficult to understand how pervasive gambling is in our society. Everyone, including students, has the option of gambling on their phone, in popular online games, and amongst one another. The average age a child is exposed to gambling is age 8. This is an incredibly important subject that is rarely talked about but pervasive throughout our society.

Inquiry-Based Learning

All Kermode Education lesson plans use inquiry-based learning to help students explore an important social topic. Inquiry-based learning has been proven to encourage curiosity and collaboration. Because of this, students begin to develop strong critical thinking skills. Furthermore, and perhaps most importantly students are encouraged to view complex subjects from another perspective or even change their mind if they gather new information to support a new viewpoint. In short, it helps students learn how to learn. As a result, this approach will have students enjoying what they learn, guiding their own learning, and internalizing that learning far more than with other educational strategies.

Even More Supports…

There is even support for Social-Emotional learning. Support for students who need additional help. There are even opportunities for assessment built right into these lesson plans. Perhaps most importantly we offer a wide range of ideas for students to share what they have learned about a topic in creative and fun ways. You want to create a video essay? Go for it. Do a mock political debate? We love it. Write a play, dress-up, and act it out? You’re amazing!

Kermode

Combined with the Kermode app, this project will help students find and evaluate information online thus building their knowledge of this subject but also building important online critical thinking skills. Skills that are crucial to successfully navigating all the online content we’re bombarded with each day. Moreover, students will begin to learn about the ethics of life online.

In conclusion, the Kermode app combined with a Kermode lesson plan is an incredibly powerful way to support students learning about complex social issues.
